Black, green or white spots on drywall, ceilings, grout, wood or the back of carpet.

What's included

Mold Removal That Lasts

Mold doesn’t show up out of nowhere. It grows where water got in and never fully dried: a basement that flooded, a ceiling under a leaky bathroom, a wall behind a dripping pipe. REA Floors provides mold remediation in Bergen County, NJ and nearby Rockland County, NY. We remove the mold, and we take care of the moisture that caused it.

What mold remediation includes

  • Inspection of the affected area and the moisture source
  • Containment to keep spores from spreading to the rest of the house
  • Removal of mold-damaged drywall, insulation, carpet and padding
  • Cleaning and treating the surfaces that stay
  • Drying the area with dehumidifiers and air movers
  • Odor and mildew control
  • Rebuilding walls, ceilings and floors

Our goal: a healthy home again

Mold can affect indoor air, especially for kids, older adults and anyone with allergies or asthma. Our aim on every job is the same: remove the mold from surfaces and the air, keep it from spreading, keep it from coming back, and restore the area to its original condition. Each job gets its own plan, because mold in a finished basement isn’t handled the same way as mold in a bathroom ceiling.

Fix the water, fix the mold

Remediation without fixing the moisture just resets the clock. That’s why we start every job by finding where the water is coming from, whether it’s a past water damage event that was never properly dried, a flooded basement or ongoing humidity. Once the source is handled and the space is dry, the mold has nothing to grow on.

Mold after a flood or leak

Most of the mold we remove started with water damage that sat too long. If you’ve had a leak or flood in the last few days, call now. Fast drying is the cheapest mold prevention there is. Once the mold is gone, our reconstruction team puts the walls, ceilings and floors back.

How it works

Our Mold Remediation Process

Every mold job is different, but we always work in this order so mold isn't spread to the rest of the house.

  1. Step 1

    Inspect & find the moisture

We look at how far the mold has spread and find the water source feeding it.

  2. Step 2

    Contain the area

We seal off the work area so spores aren't spread through the house while we work.

  3. Step 3

    Remove & treat

Moldy drywall, insulation and carpet are removed, and the remaining surfaces are cleaned and treated.

  4. Step 4

    Dry & rebuild

We dry the area, confirm the moisture is gone and rebuild what had to be removed.

Mold Out.
Walls Back Up.

Mold remediation usually means opening up walls, ceilings or floors. Once the area is clean and dry, the same REA Floors crew closes it back up with new drywall, paint and flooring, so you're not left looking for a contractor.

  • New drywall and insulation
  • Ceilings patched and painted
  • Flooring replaced where needed
  • The moisture source dealt with first

Can I just clean mold with bleach?

Bleach can lighten mold on hard surfaces like tile, but it doesn't fix mold growing into drywall, wood or carpet, and it doesn't fix the moisture behind it. That's why mold often comes back after it's wiped down. Porous materials with mold growing in them usually have to be removed.

How fast does mold grow after water damage?

Mold can start growing on wet drywall, carpet padding and wood within 24 to 48 hours. Fast, professional drying after a leak or flood is the best way to prevent it.

Will mold come back after remediation?

Not if the moisture problem is fixed. Mold needs water to grow. We find the source, dry the area and remove the materials mold was growing in, so it has nothing to come back to.

Do I need to leave my house during mold remediation?

Usually not. We contain the work area so the rest of the house stays livable. For large jobs, or if someone in the home has breathing problems, we'll talk through what makes sense.

What causes mold in a basement?

Usually moisture from a past flood, groundwater seepage, humidity or a slow leak. Basements are cool and have little airflow, which makes them the most common place we find mold.

Do you repair the walls after removing mold?

Yes. Once the area is clean and dry, we replace the drywall, insulation, paint and flooring that had to come out.
